Get To Know Me
Hi, my name is Dr. Heather Sossoman. I’m a physical therapist, and I have been creating content on my small corner of the internet since 2020. The last time I spent time introducing myself was when I started my YouTube Channel, so I think it’s time to change that! As I said I am a Physical Therapist with both my masters and doctorate in the field. I am also one of a small group of Physical Therapists, about 1%, that is a board certified clinical specialist in my field, which is pediatrics.
On my website and YouTube channel I create 2 different types of content.
Educational Videos and Posts: As a Physical Therapist, part of my job is to educate my patients and their families on how the human body works, how kids develop, and why movement and exercise are so important. And on my Blog and YouTube Channel I try to do the same thing. I am a firm believer that when we understand how things work, we have the why we need to make change. Committing to movement and exercise is a tough change to make, but when we approach that change from a place of education and understanding it gives us a much better chance at success.
“when we understand how things work, we have the why we need to make change”
2. Movement Videos and Posts: If I am going to educate on why movement matters then I need to provide easy and simple opportunities for movement. My movement videos are pretty varied:
For little kids I have Freeze Dances and Scavenger Hunts
For Older Kids, Teens, and Even Adults I have short workouts that focus on specific muscle groups and whole body.
Within each video type you will find options to move in sitting and standing so everyone can access movement.
“when we approach change from a place of education and understanding it gives us a much better chance at success.”
Because I’m a Movement Expert you are going to find that my videos look a little different that other kid focused exercise videos. I take a lot of time planning and choosing what muscle groups to focus on, the best sequence of exercises to provide the appropriate intensity and how to integrate important development skills like balance, coordination, visual scanning, directionality, and on and on. All of that to say that there is a method to what I do and it comes from my years of education and experience.
In addition to my content, I offer professional services including private and school based telehealth Physical Therapy services in multiple states. And, I create fun and inclusive apparel and stickers in my store. Here are some of my most popular designs.
One of the most unique things about me, is my tiny home on wheels where I spend the majority of my time. Her name is Lucy, and she and I have on a mission to visit as many National Parks as we can over the last 18 months. If travel content is your jam, then you can follow us here on YouTube or here on the Blog.
Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me reintroduce myself. And, I’ll see ya next time.
-Heather
